When you sign up:

You will be asked for an email address. This email address is used for authentication only and is never revealed. It has no connection to the email address you may optionally specify in your 2PB profile (although they may coincidentally be the same).

You'll specify your PB name and player group.

Your PB name is what other players will see. It can be anything -- except -- it has to be unique within your player group. (You can imagine the confusion with duplicate names. ¯\(ツ)/¯ ) If someone has "taken" your name, give yourself a nickname!

Regarding groups, the assumption is that someone told you about 2PB, and you would join their group. You can join any and all groups, but groups are separate and not visible to each other.
